McCain’s VP Selection Highlights Obama’s Inadequate Resume
by Francisco Gonzalez ~ August 29, 2008
Today, John McCain shocked the world by picking a less than likely candidate to be his Vice Presidential nominee: Sarah Palin, the Governor of Alaska. While some are asking, “who is she?” others are going further and saying, “will she be ready to be Commander-in-Chief if needed?” and, “What kind of experience does she have to be President?” The answer is: much more than Barack Obama.
Palin has been the Mayor of Wasilla and defeated an incumbent Republican in 2006 to become Governor of Alaska. While that may not be “enough experience” to be Vice President, her experience in her community, by serving on the city council and being President of her child’s PTA is as much experience as Obama’s so-called “community organizing.” She may not have a fancy Ivy League degree, but she did get a degree from the University of Idaho, understanding what average folks go through in the public university system. She also knows the struggle of sacrificing for this country: she currently has a son serving in Iraq - and that’s enough of a burden for any mother (of 5) to bear. And, she doesn’t trust Barack Obama to be her son’s Commander-in-Chief.
Some will also say that Palin wouldn’t have been nominated to be Vice President if she was a man. There are many other Republican men with more accomplishments that McCain could have selected. That is certainly true. And there’s no doubt in my mind that “affirmative action” played a role in this pick. But that also highlights another (mostly) unspoken truth about the candidacy of Barack Obama. Without being black, there would be nothing significant about his candidacy. He brings no real accomplishments or experience to the table. There are plenty of other more qualified black men (and women) that could have filled this spot. But they probably have better things to do than continue to seek higher offices.
This book and this blog makes no endorsement of John Mccain or Barack Obama, or their running mates, or anyone else. But today’s VP selection by John McCain demonstrates that even the Governor of Alaska is more qualified to be President than Barack Obama.
