The Majority of Young Voters Support Obama… Until Now
by Francisco Gonzalez ~ August 13, 2008
The candidacy of Barack Obama has energized millions of Americans who have turned out in record numbers to participate in the 2008 presidential primaries. Much of his candidacy’s success has been built upon the support he has among the youth and other new voters. So far, Obama has won 18-29 year olds in every state, garnering 67% of their votes in South Carolina, 59% in Nevada, 51% in New Hampshire and 57% in Iowa. Granted, these numbers solely reflect the Democrat primary. But, more young people (ages 18-29) are registered as Democrats (43%) and independents (26%) than as Republicans (31%).
Most of these young people often comment that Obama’s flowery speeches “inspire” them. He has convinced them that he is the candidate of “change.” The only books published about Obama, however, have been built on his narrative. Due to the lack of media scrutiny (and the almost “giddiness” that much of the mainstream media has for Obama), there is relatively little information available that questions or challenges his candidacy in any serious way. As the recent controversies surrounding his church, his pastor, and his other dubious associations have demonstrated, when questions are raised, Obama has trouble answering them.
Our book, written by three young voters, seeks to further expose Obama’s background, his inexperience, his far left political agenda, and demonstrate that not all the youth are behind him. We also aim to challenge our peers (and others) to question their attraction to the Obama candidacy and his big government proposals. If you are a young person or know a young person, we ask you to purchase a copy of this book (support us, thanks!) and help bring the ideas in our book to life for an individual you know. Challenge them to think, encourage them to learn. If we can spread the facts and ideas around this country, we can bring change to the statistics we cited above.
