Reaching Out… To Pick Your Pocket…

A July 2007 article by the New York Times listed only one bill sponsored by Barack Obama dealing directly with the topic of immigration. SB0680 is that such bill. Co-sponsored by Obama and filed on February 19, 2003 the bill amended the Attorney General Act to create an “Office of Immigrant Assistance” within the Office of the Attorney General. The bill stated:
“These immigrants often require assistance in order to obtain the government services to which they are entitled under the law.”
This legislation epitomizes the sense of entitlement promoted by Barack Obama perhaps better than any other. Through generations of legal immigration to the United States, millions of people are the descendents of those who came to this country searching for a better life. Whether they be their children, grandchildren, or beyond, they share a common history and a common unifying factor; that their ancestors came to this nation desiring to be Americans. According to Barack Obama however, immigrants were now “entitled” to government services at taxpayer expense. The bill continued:
“Within the Office of the Attorney General, there shall be established an Immigrant Assistance Program, which shall be charged with the responsibility of assessing the needs of the State’s immigrant community with regard to access to government and other services.”
One wonders exactly what “education and outreach services” consisted of. The bill was conveniently silent on this topic, however a fiscal note added by the Office of the Attorney General gave some insight on what the expected cost might be.
“The estimated annual cost would be $300,000. This would include salary and benefits for 2 new full-time AAGs and 1.5 support staff, plus their related operating costs”
Obama has proven he is willing to take the hard earned wages of American citizens and distribute them to illegal aliens in the form of free government services. Appearing unexpectedly on the national political scene, Barack Obama has built himself up as the candidate separate from the typical politicians of the day. He has campaigned as one with the ability to separate himself from infighting, stand above bitter rivalries, and emerge distinct from leaders of the past. In the end however he is really no different from the typical politicians of the day
As Barack Obama was elected to the United States Senate in 2004, the recipient of leftist agenda shifted. No longer would only the state of Illinois be privy to his bills, speeches, and resolutions. Now the entire United States would be subject to his ideology as he made Washington DC his home and the chambers of the United States Senate his bully pulpit.
